Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

ubuntu 10.04: I have11GB files on the web store and after connecting a PC with Ubuntuone, expecting some transfers, I got the empty folders down but the files have not yet come down. After more than 48 hours, the empty folders still remain empty. I note that about every 10 minutes or so, some kb's of data is exchanged and I see the syncdaemon log is gathering information, seems sensible, about individual files, however the files information is gathering only very slowly, a few files listed every 10 minutes. In my 11GB of data I have 3000 files within approximately 25 folders or subfolders. A total of about 7MB of information has been received over about 24 hours or more so far. At this rate I will not get data before the end of the year, something is wrong? I note the syncdaemon exceptions log is empty.

When I view the web storage with firefox the responses are fast and apparently accurate.

One thing though, the web ubuntuone account (paid) indicates a total of 11.4 GB whereas at my end on the source machine I see only 9.8GB of files. It used to be 11.4, but should have a smaller total now. An IRC session I had a while ago suggested that the server data base needed cleaning up, it was expected at some future time. I wonder if my data is not yet cleaned up at the server end.

candtalan,
Sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your U1 install. The server performance is degraded right now. The U1 developers are working hard on a fix. I expect early this week performance will improve. You can check on sync progress with the commands:

u1sdtool --waiting-metadata | wc -l

u1sdtool --waiting-content | wc -l

The numbers returned should get smaller over time.

thank you,,

candtalan,
sync performance has been improving. The fixes the team has implemented are starting to pay off. Has your files synced yet? If not please attach the logs to this bug report using the 'Add Attachment or Patch' button at the bottom of the page. Just zip your $HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/ folder and attach the zip here. You can zip the folder by right-clicking on it and selecting compress.

After you attach the logs you can change the 'Status' of your bug back to 'New'. The status of a bug report can be modified by clicking on the current status in the yellow line, which will reveal a sub menu. You can then set a new status in the drop down box.

thank you,

Thanks for the enquiry. The machine has been off for a while (a week?) but just before it was off, I saw one single file come down, although there was a lot of loosing connection and connecting again.

I have had the machine on now again for a few hours but apparently no files. I also tried using both the Connect and Restart buttons once or twice also, in Preferences.

log attached
thanks

ccandtalan,
looks as though the service is disconnecting a lot. That definetly should not be happening. There were a few weeks where that was happening because of the number of new users. I think this was fixed by 2010-06-07, but can you confirm or negate that this is still happening?

thank you,

Please see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/FAQ/WhyAreOnlyFoldersUploadedButNotFiles

I'm marking this bug incomplete as this is likely related to the FAQ above. The disconnects from the service may have been intermittent. If this issue persists and doesn't seem related to the FAQ above, then please send a support request to: https://one.ubuntu.com/support/contact
