Upon inspection of your codec dump, I believe you've used the wrong model quirk (regardless of what may have been advised in another report that lacked your codec dump). Instead of mbp31 (which doesn't exist), you should use mba21.

Changed as instructed (file attached). Same issue I'm afraid.

Are you intentionally using a combined (simultaneous output) sink? I.e., use (install if necessary first) paprefs, choose the Simultaneous Output tab, and make sure "Add virtual output device for simultaneous output on all local sound cards" is *not* checked. Then use (install first if necessary) pavucontrol, and make sure that the single internal audio analog stereo sink is chosen.

I'm afraid that went way over my head. I have done a default install of 10.4LTS and am trying to listen to youtube videos. I have no sound output through the internal speaker, however, if I plug headphones in I can hear sound.

Looking through sound preferences (from the menu icon), I can see two options under output. Currently, simultaneous output to internal analogue stereo is selected. Changing the setting to internal audio stereo makes no difference, including any selected connector.

Thanks for the help, so far.

Regards,

Craig

OK, found what you where talking about and unchecked the option. Still the same, no sound through the speaker.

Running pavucontrol, you can see audio output in the bottom bar, but no sound from the speakers on any of the settings.

So bug is still present. Hope you can solve this for me.

Upgraded alsa 1.0.21 to 1.0.23 following these instructions

http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2010/05/02/upgrade-alsa-1-0-23-on-ubuntu-lucid-lynx-10-04/

and speaker started working.

So it looks like the fix is to include the latest version of alsa in 10.4lts

It's already slated for inclusion in
linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic; you'll just need to wait a
bit.

Alternately, there is linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) from
ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev.
