Bug Description

Ubuntu 10.04
Rhythmbox 0.12.8

When plugging in IPod, it appears on desktop and am prompted to open RB
In RB I can see the files on the ipod fine.
However, I cannot write any file from RB to iPod.
I can however move a file on the iPod to a playlist on the iPod within RB (it shows up in RB but in iPod)

which filesystem are you using on the ipod? could you plug in the ipod and run dmesg and attach the result log to the report? Thanks in advance.

GParted tells me that the filesystem of the iPod is 'FAT32'. However right-clicking on the desktop icon for the ipod, and selecting 'properties' says that the file system is 'msdos'.
Also, under the 'permissions' tab, the dialog says "the permissions of <ipod name> could not be determined"

I've attached the dmesg log from the point the ipod was plugged in to right after I tried to write a file.

I have found a workaround to this.

I have found that the issue occurs when I try to copy a file from RhythmBox to an existing playlist (see screenshot attached).
I can write files to the ipod if I copy to the ipod "root" itself as displayed in RhythmBox, and NOT to the playlist. From RB, I can then organise the files into the playlist, by clicking and dragging (although Podcasts automatically got copied to the Podcast folder on the Ipod). This persists once the ipod is detached.

could you write files on the ipod folder created on your desktop ? creating a simple file should be enough.

Yes I can write a new file to the desktop iPod folder, and see it when the iPod is disconnected (I've confirmed this on two different generations of iPod)
So the issue (from my point of view) seems to be specifically writing to playlists, but the fact I can write downloaded files such as podcasts to the iPod is a major step forward for me.

Ok could you please run rhythmbox as: rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt ; perform the steps to reproduce the bug and attach that resulting log file to the report? Thanks in advance!.

I have a similar problem but it's only 1 file. I tried transferring it both through RB and manually, but then on the iPod the song shows up on the list, but it doesn't play. The filetype is mp3.
