I'm sorry but I lost those files tring to repair my installation. It's the third time (on different machines) that I have this problem, could you keep this bug open waiting for an update?

I realized that this bug appears when I install Ubuntu with the root on an XFS filesystem. GRUB don't likes it and causes installer crash. With mount, chroot and lilo I was able to fix it, but I think we should do something. It may annoy some users.

This is a known issue. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot filesystem. The fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this up-front is also bug 47848, and is fixed in dapper-updates.
