Binary package hint: nautilus
I have this option enabled, but I think it has stopped working after an update. It doesn't play mp3, neither ogg. Totem works correctly.

If you open up the sound preferences/ applications tab, you will see audio preview appear when you hover over the nautilus media file icon, but the seek/status button doesn't move and of course no sound is heard.
