Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

This is a nuisance if using nautilus as a photo-sorter, etc. The picture goes orange, see attached screenshot.

The screenshot shows one of pair of similar photos, but the highlighted one just looks "crummy".

Some other way of highlighting the current selection should be made, e.g., a coloured BORDER, not the icon itself.

Note that the text (filename) already has a coloured background.

alfredo, just as a heads up in ubuntu 10.04 the highlighted color is grey and doesn't distort anywhere near as bad. Have you considered upgrading? (I'm attaching a screenshot).

Hi, Christopher,

Your "highlight" is grey because you have selected a grey theme.

Change your theme colour, then tell me what you see.

Alf

I see that I can change the selection color under theme customization and it is reflected in the selection color (and can distort accordingly). I will change the bug to "Confirmed" and send it upstream for consideration.

Thank you for sending the bug to GNOME, setting as wishlist, it makes the selection easier to see in most cases, not sure changing would be a win, nobody is viewing photos in thumbnail mode anyway, there are image viewer for that usecase

Sebastien wrote "nobody is viewing photos in thumbnail mode anyway".

Wrong.

When somebody writes "nobody does...", he/she means *he/she* does not.

I use icon view all the time for managing and moving photos to appropriate folders, etc.

Nautilus is still the best app for managing all these folders and files.

One working folder I on my server has 130 subfolders, with 1932 photos totalling 7.4GB, and that's just one of several projects.

And yes, the photos have to be in subfolders because other people using Windows do no have access to things like my local F-Spot cache which manages photos by categorising them which is really only a user app, and which is not suitable for office-wide working (read Linux+lots of Windows+even a Mac).

As for image *viewing*, yes, I double-click all the time on photos, to bring up a viewer, but that cannot manage files as well as Nautilus.
