Bug Description

I'm trying to continue burning a multession DVD-R that was created with a previous version of k3b.
I'm using kubuntu 10.04.
K3b prompts me to insert a suitable medium into the drive but it says it has found medium appendable dvd-r medium.
Attached is a print screen.

I booted a kubuntu 8.04 dvd and used k3b 1.04. I was able to continue the
multisession DVD-R. What I noticed is that when using k3b 1.04 it says it's
using growisofs when getting ready to continue the multisession dvd-r.
Kubuntu 10.04 says it's says it's using wodim.

I confirm that this is affecting Lucid.

when attempting to continue a multisession I receive a message stating that the proper medium must be inserted, even tho the multisession was started by k3b.

My workaround is to manually 'umount /media/DVD_whichever' then select "New Data Project."
The new files will be added on as a continuation of the multisession.

Note, the problem was not present when I first installed k3b, I don't know what triggered it, but it has now been like this for at least 2 or 3 weeks.

I am attaching a screenshot of the error-pop-up window.

This happens whether I select "continue multisession" or "auto" mode

Ubuntu Lucid 10.04
Gnome 2.30.0

Hello,

thanks to Tux Rev a lot for this small but effective solution, it really worked, and the files look like if from one burn.

Just a hint for searching for the problem: I managed to append to a multisession founded under Karmic (I'm not sure whether there was a update of K3B too). The problem occurred just after the second appendance. A used the CD with two sessions, one from "Karmic", one from "Lucid", and when trying to append a third one I got the message about to insertb a suitable medium.

I have some similar problem. I believe it is k3b trying to play safe although I have selected in options to force some unsafe operations. Try this command to verify this:

growisofs -speed=6 -M /dev/dvdrw -R -J -V myVolumeName /path/with/files/to/add/to/dvd

same problem with k3b 2.0.2.
after writing DVD-R with 'Start multisession', it says in disk properties 'Appendable: no' and i cannot import previous session. workaround with unmount doesn't help.

k3b apparently closes the session even though "start multisession" was selected on the misc tab. I confirmed this by putting the DVD in a different machine and trying to append with a different program. I'm a little bit surprised because burning a multisession CD-RW tested out OK (what's the difference between burning a multisession CD-RW and a multisession DVD as far as the program is concerned?) This in up-to-date Ubuntu 12.04.
