Bug Description

Binary package hint: mikmod

Hi,

FYI in Karmic mikmod worked as expected. Now in Lucid, mikmod <mod file> immediately starts writing the file out to disk. I.e. convert to wav. I have tried the -d argument to get it to output to something different (alsa ? oss ?) and it feels like nothing is compiled in. From briefly reading some of the mikmod docs, I would think this would actually be something in the libmikmod build on Lucid. It seems like only disk writer support was compiled in ? Please let me know if you need any more info. Thanks.

FYI this should really be 'mikmod DEFAULTS to output disk writer'. Out of curisosity, I tried 'mikmod -d alsa <mod file>' and it works. So as a workaround, I have this aliased in .bash_aliases. Nevertheless, this is not intuitive and should probably default to alsa etc (NOT disk writer).

Now today, this does not exhibit this behavior by default. I also have a Lucid VM in virtualbox and it did not exhibit this behavior. I have no idea what in my environment or install could have caused this.

This must have been a fluke, pulseaudio on the fritz, etc. I cannot reproduce this on a fresh Lucid install.

Changed in mikmod (Ubuntu):

In Mint 14 mikmod refuses -d alsa option. Only disk writer driwer works. Mikmod version 3.2.1-4 and libmikmod 3.1.12-4.

In trusty, I was able to get mikmod working, well, partly.
I have used following syntax:
[user@server-lx Downloads]# padsp -d mikmod -d 3 /path/to/modules.

However, the playback seems quite strange. Some of the patches play with a heavy clicking noise, some just show as a white noise, but most are fine.
When I tried to do this as root, mikmod has segfaulted immediately.
