Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Fire fox won't load www.facebook.com or www.facebook.com/login.php, it seems to get half way there and then sits with the "Welcome to Facebook" title and waiting for static.ak.fbcdn.net down the bottom. Occasionally if you wait long enough it will load some of the contents of the page without any formatting (like a web page with no css available). Same thing happens with Chromium. I am using the opendns servers but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I was using opensuse 11.2 a couple of days back and that was fine as well. Every other page I have gone to seems to load just fine, except for http://www.ticketmaster.co.nz/. Could it be a flash problem? I dunno. Fresh install anyway and fully updated. The only change I have made to the network settings was to give myself a static ip and use the opendns servers.

Does the browser actually crash or does just the loading hang on certain parts of the page? If its a network loading issue you can track this down by using the firefox extension "Firebug" and its network panel. (See here for some hints: http://getfirebug.com/network) A network issue is probably not an ubuntu bug.

I am having the same problem with loading facebook. it is only when i am using the library's internet connect, and using ubuntu. it doesn't matter what browser I use (tried chrome, firefox, epiphany), even using windows firefox through wine doesn't work. If I load up windows it works just fine. If I use windows with vmware it works just fine. all my friends using windows or os x have no problems. Also, it is just not facebook. A few other sites won't load, or only partially load. vimeo seems to stall half way. Also I can't seem to download podcasts, but i haven't tried this under windows so it could be network specific issue.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.
