Bug Description

When I read the adobe reader description, it is written "Adobe Reader cannot be installed on your computer type (i386)" whereas I think that's not true. Is it a bug ?

I get this for all application that are not in main; these packages also have no descriptions. They are installable without problem though.

Thanks for your bugreport.

Is this dapper or edgy? I can not reproduce this on my edgy here. Please attach /etc/apt/sources.list. Could you also please try to run "sudo apt-get update " from a terminal before runing gnome-app-install? And then runing it ("gnome-app-install") from a terminal and paste the output here.

Thanks,
 Michael

Cheers,
 Michael

Apparently this has been changed in the latest versions : It's not doing that now. Fixed for me.

This message is being shown to me with Adobe Reader and most other applications with current Edgy. My architecture is a Thinkpad T40 Centrino.

Do you run the latest version of gnome-app-install? What does:
$ apt-cache policy acroread
output (on a terminal)?

Michael,

I keep my system fixed with the latest Edgy updates. Normally, "apt-cache policy acroread" responds with "W: Unable to locate package acroread". Once I enable multiverse, it responds with:

"acroread:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 7.0.8-0.0.ubuntu2
  Version table:
     7.0.8-0.0.ubuntu2 0
        500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com edgy/multiverse Packages"

And it suddenly becomes available in Add/Remove Applications!

If I disable multiverse again, Add/Remove returns to the bogus message that "Adobe Reader cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type."

Yes, but it isn't problem. It was only my mystake in allowing
repositories.

I got this message after I installed edubuntu 7.04 an a P4 Computer. I realised that only some software included in the edubuntu had been installed and tried to add it manually through application/add & remove. When I then for example click on Kalzium I get this error. Same applies for some system software. Open offcie is there, a lot of games are there, but nothing from the educational software. I'm writing from Africa and it's hard for me to access the internet. Can I download this gnome update manually and install it? I'm quite new to Linux and obviously need some basic help...
