Bug Description

Binary package hint: shotwell

If photos are added removed from imported directories (especially ~/Pictures/Photos) then this should be reflected in Shotwell.

I'd like to second this request, and add that this functionality would be useful for all imported directories, not just the Photos folder. My photos are stored on an external hard drive, so the ability to monitor any imported directory would be great!

Under the current behavior, when editing files in an external editor then returning to Shotwell, my only recourse is to re-import the directory. When I do this, Shotwell creates a new "event" with the same name as the existing event, just to contain the new, edited image. If Shotwell were able to monitor directories for changes and display new (and changed) files as they're created, this would be avoided.

Thanks for the best app of its kind to hit Ubuntu yet. Keep up the great work!

Monitoring for added/removed files won't make Shotwell 0.6 but is high on our priority list for 0.7, coming later this summer (in time for Ubuntu 10.10). I agree: the ability to monitor any imported directory would be great. We'll see what we can do. :)

Does shotwell monitor/watch folders now? Not seeing the behaviour in .71 yet, do I have to turn something on or did it not make it to .71?

We have our photos shared on a directory on the server not on local machines so having Shotwell on personal systems scan/monitor and create links back to the library would be ideal.

We were hoping to implement folder monitoring for Shotwell 0.7, but ran out of time, so you correctly observed that the feature's not there. :) We're planning to implement this in some form for 0.8.
