Rhythmbox hangs if started with connected Sandisk Sansa

With my Sansa Fuze connected, starting rhythmbox gets so far as to load the icon in the Indicator Applet, but doesn't proceed any further. Clicking on the icon does not display any menu.

To reproduce:
1.) Attach Sansa Fuze
2.) Start Rhythmbox
3.) Note that rhythmbox doesn't function

Expected behavior:
Rhythmbox starts and allows interaction with the fuze.

If I connect the Fuze after starting Rhythmbox, everything seems fine.
