Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Freezes computer so even SysRq doesn't work. Latest updates are applied. Only vesa driver is working

Yes, we know. Unfortunately, many 855GM-based computers freezes and we do not know about a workaround that works for everyone or even most people. There is a link for possible workarounds in the release notes: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/ReleaseNotes#Intel%208xx%20X%20freezes/crashes .

FWIW reenabling KMS did the trick for me (laptop toshiba satellite l10-204)
