Bug Description
I had upgraded to 195.36.15-0ubuntu3 only to find that upon reboot X wouldn't start.
I think the relevant Xord.log lines were:
(EE) NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your
(EE) NVIDIA: system's kernel log for additional error messages.
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) Unloading /usr/lib/
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0)
(EE) No drivers available.
I fixed the problem by reverting to 195.36.15-0ubuntu2
This bug can probably be closed. I ran into some similar problems with the release of 195.36. 24-0ubuntu1~ 10.04. I solved the problem by purging all nvidia packages. Then removing the directories:
/usr/lib32/ nvidia- current nvidia- current
/usr/lib/
which were not empty meaning somehow cruft had accumulated in them. I then reinstalled nvidia-current and everything seemed to work. I have my fingers crossed that the next driver update will happen without any issues.
