Bug Description

Binary package hint: freemat

When trying to perform any command in freemat console, no result or output is provided. The command typed is added to the history, however no variable is assigned, no error or other message is displayed.

Moreover:
After startup, freemat does not display the initial info lines (copyright etc..) and user must manually click "clear console" button to see the standard command prompt.

FreeMat works much better as Win32 application under Wine :-)

Freemat is completely dead as a matter of fact.

It hangs indefinitely at startup. The symptom reported above is the sign that when freemat starts it spawn a gui process (which works) while its processing thread hangs.

This can be better evidenced by starting freemat without its gui as freemat -noX or freemat -nogui or freemat -e. In this case, freemat simply hangs.

By simply hangs, I mean it does not get to the point where it should show its prompt.

Most likely due to bug 893742

Please, try to see if there is a directory called Private in your home and in this case try the following

1) Temporarily rename the directory to something else
2) See if freemat starts now

If this is positive, please let this bug be marked as a duplicate of 893742.
