No feedback

Hi,

Long time Ubuntu user, recent Lucid upgrade, using Ubuntu One for the first time. I right click a subdirectory In home and select Synchronize on UbuntuOne. I get Synchronization in Progress... in the Ubuntu One window but 0.0% is used and no bar activity is visible even though in the Ubuntu One web interface the folder, subdirectories and files appear with the status, Uploading. This the case for 57mins and counting.

Meanwhile, my target folder in my home directory shows no icon change although the Stop Synchronizing on Ubuntu One option is greyed out in the folder menu.

In summary, it appears something is happening, but I get no activity feedback on the local machine and it appears that no files have been uploaded.

Increasing the user feedback is a popular request.

A tool to help that is currently available in Lucid is u1sdtool.

u1sdtool -s
u1sdtool --waiting-metadata
u1sdtool --waiting-content
u1sdtool --list-folders

man u1sdtool - will give you more commands and details on each.

Nick,
It sounds like you are talking about two issues.

1. The Emblems on your folders are not reflecting the current state of that directory. i.e. syncing, done syncing, etc.

2. The Ubuntu One Preferences window does not update. Meaning you open the preferences window, add 1GB of data to Ubuntu One, but the using X GB used (X %) does not accurately update.

And just suggesting more user feedback period. Am I understanding your concerns correctly.

I think I am saying that I have one issue which is that I get no feedback on my local machine. This manifests itself in two obvious ways :

- The Ubuntu One preferences window shows 0.0% of my space used, even though I have synchronized about 900mb of data. The bar does not update.
- The directory I synchronized shows no icon change

There are other issues, (been synchronizing about 900mb of files now for 24hours and still some files are missing), but I will post these elsewhere.

Note that the emblem are not very explicit, because I observe after syncing a folder with 2 video of 200Mo that the emblem say "Not Synchronizing". So if it does not synch, what does it do??? I guess it is ashing file, but I would prefer have it explain somewhere in the Ubuntu One GUI...

We have improved the UI a lot on newer versions of Ubuntu, and we are still working on many additional improvements. For the moment, on the lucid version we will work only on fixing bugs and not on adding new features, so I'll mark this bug as won't fix.

It would help us a lot if you try the most recent version of Ubuntu One on Oneiric, or the development version on Precise. If you are still dissatisfied with the feedback given by the UI, we would appreciate a lot to receive your suggestions. For that, please open a new bug.
