Blank Screen With Blinking Cursor

When booting with 2.6.32-22, I get a blinking '_' and a black screen for exactly 20 seconds before the system boots. I am using and x86_64. This problem did not occur in 2.6.32-21.

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . I'm now using Ubuntu 10.10 with linux 2.6.35-23-generic. I receive the same blinking underscore, but now for exactly 9 seconds. While the underscore is blinking I receive some error messages about my FakeRAID setup (which was introduced recently). This leads me to believe that this bug is merely a failure to show the normal output messages, or is a deliberate feature.

I'd rather not waste time testing upstream kernels until I have some idea of what the problem is, and if it's even a problem at all.
