Bug Description

Binary package hint: xdg-utils

This bug definitely affects the Lubuntu distribution, but may also affect the vanilla Ubuntu distribution.

It manifests itself as an inability to click downloaded files in Chromium or Google Chrome. This is due to a bug with xdg-open, which can be tested by running the following in a terminal:

~$ xdg-open /tmp
Warning: unknown mime-type for "/tmp" -- using "application/octet-stream"
Error: no "view" mailcap rules found for type "application/octet-stream"

It was fixed upstream in the following bug report:

http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23280

From what I can tell this has not made it downstream yet, as the bug persists in Lucid, using the latest package xdg-utils 1.0.2-6.1ubuntu3

Hopefully this upstream fix can be applied, or the packages synced, which should resolve the issue.

Hi Sebastien
Thanks for the update - would it be possible to backport this to Lucid as well?
