Bug Description

Binary package hint: gvfs

I have two windows hardware driver cds that came with hardware I recently purchased. Both suffer from the same issue.

The CD is detected and mounted (including the cd label) at /media/cdrom0, however no files are displayed.
dmesg output reports the following:

[89245.260397] UDF-fs: No VRS found
[89245.260403] UDF-fs: No partition found (1)
[89245.340199] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 1
[89245.342207] ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A

In attempting to troubleshoot the issue, I have tested on several other computers with different optical drive hardware, cpus and motherboards, ranging from a P3 with a dvd-rom to an intel i7 latptop with a blu-ray burner.
The issue is constant across different hardware environments.
All the computers in question were running lucid (final) or karmic (fully updated).

I also noted that I was able to copy the cd to an iso image using brasero. Mounting this iso image using archive mounter also showed no files, however opening the iso image using archive manager revealed the files on the cd.

I also tested the CD using the cd passthrough function of virtualbox, using several current linux distros and MS XP.
Distros tested were:
Crunchbang statler alpha
Fedora 12
Linux Mint 8
SymphonyOne 2008.1

With the same result.

XP mounted and autoran the cd without issue.

The CD in question is the driver CD for the Nokia E-series phones and the ISO is ~188Mb. I can attach it to the bug report if requested.
I have the same issue with another driver CD which came with a samsung clx-3175fn printer, so I don't believe it is an issue with the physical media.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of GVFS is available on Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with that version? Could you please test and comment back? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately this issue is still present in the latest stable release. I will test it in Natty once I return from holidays.
