irc links do not opens

i click at irc://irc.freenode.net/#docky link and got "File not found error". I have pidgin installed and expect get docky chanel on it

then i try to set gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/irc/command '/usr/bin/purple-url-handler "%s"' ,but nothing changed

I tried to reproduce you issue but I couldn't.

When I click irc://irc.freenode.net/#docky I get the launch application pop up, where I can select pidgin or whatever I want.

I also cannot reproduce this bug.
I get a nice Launch Application window asking me with which package to open the link.

I also can't reproduce this bug. I get the Launch Application window. I'm also on i386.

Can you look in Edit > Preferences > Applications and tell us what Action is set for the irc Content Type.
