Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

I have the lucid-dvd iso image file mounted on /mnt/lucid-dvd.

grep lucid /etc/fstab
/data/Install/lucid-dvd-i386.iso /mnt/lucid-dvd iso9660 loop 00

Command
apt-cdrom -m --cdrom=/mnt/lucid-dvd add
after a while writes:

Using CD-ROM mount point /media/apt/
Identifying.. [f962a298e59d90dde35dc2546808273b-2]
Scanning disc for index files..
Found 0 package indices, 0 source indices, 0 translation indices and 0 signatures
W: Failed to mount '/dev/sr0' to '/media/apt/'
E: Unable to locate any package files, perhaps this is not a Debian Disc or the wrong architecture?

1) apt-cdrom writes bad mount point /media/apt/. It should use /mnt/lucid-dvd.
2) apt-cdrom should found packages in mounted /mnt/lucid-dvd.
3) apt-cdrom should not try to mount '/dev/sr0' to '/media/apt/'.
4) apt-cdrom should add a line to /etc/apt/sources.list about Lucid. It didn't.
5) apt-cdrom should quickly return. What is it doing? Trying to mount cdrom?
6) The error messaage could be more specific.

Can you try to scan the DVD with setting the Dir::Media::MountPath option, e.g.:

$ sudo apt-cdrom -d /mnt/lucid-dvd -m -o=Dir::Media::MountPath=/mnt/lucid-dvd add

It's still a problem on maverick alpha 3. In fact, not only are the above problems occuring, but I also could not get aptitude install <pkgs> to install from the cd. It kept complaining that it couldn't find the files. I finally had to cp all the debs to /var/cache/apt/archives and then aptitude would install. This extends the amount of time to get a base system up and running.
