Sorry that my description isn't verbose. I don't have time to write a long one right now, and the problem is sufficiently described in the generated text.

After apparent installation, acroread will execute. However, the app does not appear in the menu structure.

Installation from software center appeared to stall.

After closing the software center, a message indicated the installation failed, but the program could be executed from command line.
