Bug Description

When i boot up my computer (before the purple ubuntu screen loads) I get black and white bar lines across both monitors. This has been a problem since I upgraded from karmic to lucid. I run it on a dell 410 XPS machine with two monitors looking at the same desktop. One monitor is a dell flat screen and the other is an acer flat screen monitor. There is an odd high pitched sound when it is showing the bars as well.. What is up? I have done all available updates at this time.

Have you tried booting Ubuntu with just one monitor attached? This may be worth a try to narrow down the source of the problem. See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/MonitorDetection

Good luck.

If I turn on the machine with only one monitor attached I still get the black/white bars across the screen.

This is still happening. Started in 10.4 and continued in 10.11. It happens even with just one monitor attached. I have a dell xps 410 with a Dell and an Acer monitors attached.

It's probably a driver bug, but since you didn't include any config or log files it's not possible to do any analysis to narrow it down.

Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /etc/X11/xorg.conf, ~/.config/monitors.xml and the output of `dmesg`. That should at least give us the basic run down of your system so we can determine what the next steps should be. If there's any way you can take a photo of the monitors showing the bars, that would help.

I assume after the boot is over, the oddness goes away?
