Bug Description

Binary package hint: binutils-avr

The source tarbal for this package includes "30-binutils-2.18-avr-size.patch" which adds the -C option. It seems this patch was missed when the packages were built for lucid.

Steps to reproduce:
1. sudo aptitude install binutils-avr
2. avr-size --help
3. note: "-A|-B --format={sysv|berkeley}"

Work Around:
Install either the Ubuntu 9.10 version of this package (binutils-avr_2.18-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb) or the debian squeeze version (binutils-avr_2.20-3_amd64.deb). Both were compiled correctly, with the patch applied.

SRU JUSTIFICATION:
Since Lucid is a LTS a lot of us corporate users will be using the release for years and not all of us may be allowed to install an older package as suggested in the work around.
Having the possibility of seeing the flash and RAM usage after each build is quite important when developing for systems with limited resources.

Sorry, forgot to add expected results...

Expected results:
3 should show "-A|-B|-C --format={sysv|berkeley|avr}"

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Maverick Meerkat.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

I would really appreciate if this issue was fixed in Lucid as well.

So we Lucid users and LTS advocates are supposed to wait until end of april 2012 to have an "avr-size -C" or live in perpetual beta?
