Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Writer doesn't print properly when new fonts have been installed (cf. Issue 68536 at www.openoffice.org). This can be solved only by running
'/usr/lib/openoffice/program/spadmin.bin'
and adding all the fonts in the subdirectories of /usr/share/fonts to Openoffice. Maybe there should be a better integration of GNOME font management with Openoffice font management? For an average user it is almost impossible to find the 'spadmin.bin'-command.
I would expect that copying the font files to 'Fonts' with Nautilus is enough to use and print them with Openoffice.

as suggested by upstream, you should run fc-cache -f after the manual installation of fonts. when fonts are install from .deb packages, this is done by the installation scripts of the font packages.

For the average user, this solution is too complicated. Maybe there should be a Gnome app for installing new fonts (which runs fc-cache automatically)?
I think, a manual installation of new fonts (e. g. the fonts from an existing windows installation) is a quite normal task. Shouldn't this work without the command line?

This should be part of the 'draining the font swamp' discussion on the -devel mailing list. It seems the real issue here is that we need a better tool for manually installing fonts, which needs to be speced up, etc.
