Ok I did some research on the web and since I'm not the only one who's affected by that bug others seem to have found a solution. I tried it myself and it fixed the edge scrolling problem (however I did not try to make it permanent):

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1472195

code:

sudo rmmod psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps

Hope this is helpful at some point!

ok after testing it for a bit the fix works pretty well, however now I'm unable to change the pointers theme. When an application's open, let's say firefox, the new theme appears (for instance comics cursor) but when on the desktop the theme doesn't work.

Anyways since this is a minor thing I guess this will stay a monologue of mine ;-)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu (or its derivatives!) better. Can you make sure that side scrolling is enabled in the Mouse preferences? (Note that I don't have a computer with a touchpad right now, so I am asking this based on my memory). This is not typically enabled by default. Anyway, we need some more information from you before we can start working on this bug. Please run the following command which will attach necessary information:

apport-collect 576084

The cursor theme problem is a known issue that is probably caused by using Compiz (Desktop Effects).

Thanks in advance!

Hey!

thanks for taking the time to look at this.

First of about the cursor theme I noticed that the problem isn't related to my netbook (and said edge scrolling fix) because since using Linux Mint 9 (based on ubuntu 10.04 that is) on my NOTEbook (HP Pavilion dv6 1040ez) changing the cursor theme doesn't work either even though edge scrolling works perfectly fine.

anyways...the netbook (HP pavilion dm1 1020ez):

I checked if the scrolling was enabled, of course ;-) and it was! (tested UNR, ubuntu 10.04 and linux mint 9), edge scrolling didn't work for any of these distros.

Now since i was able to fix it as mentioned above, I don't know if this affects the outcome of the command.

Edit:

running the command and i get

"*** Updating problem report

No additional information collected."

Doesn't look like the desired outcome? :-)
