Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Description: A control, most likely the top gnome-panel, gets and keeps the focus. Until now i didn't found a way to bring the control somehow to release the focus again, except a reboot or probably log out - log in .

The behaviour exists since the upgrade from 9.04 to 10.04. Since the 2010-04-29 it is occured three times.

To reproduce: Unknown, the last time i worked in firefox (i don't think there is a relation)

Detailed behaviour:
- Keyboard input is on control, its not possible to enter text somewhere
- Its possible to open desktop icons, etc with the mouse
- Its not possible to move a window with the mouse
- Its possible to close windows with the mouse
- Its not possible to open gnome-panel items like menu, wlan, bluetooth, etc
- Its not possible to switch windows with alt + tab
- In the top gnope-panel there is alway a item marked (Applications, Places, System, wlan, bluetooth, etc)
- Its possible to open the calendar in the panel

X181, I've been having exactly the same problem and it has been driving me nuts. I'm using Maverick (amd64). I see this bug is marked as a duplicate of #578040, but I question its relevance because I am using an external keyboard nowhere near my touch pad.

X181, I wonder if it may have something to do with our peripherials? I am using a Razer Lachesis mouse and a Razer Lycosa keyboard.

I did, however, find a workaround today. If you can break into a virtual terminal or shell into the machine from elsewhere, kill gnome-settings-daemon and then restart the process. Input focus is restored.
