Bug Description

Kubuntu Lucid, clean install from release CD image.

I received an update notification that a new linux-image was available, so I installed it with apt-get dist-upgrade

linux-image-generic:
  Installed: 2.6.32.22.23
  Candidate: 2.6.32.22.23
  Version table:
 *** 2.6.32.22.23 0
        500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     2.6.32.21.22 0
        500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

However, the update did not pull in the required linux-headers-generic package and so my nvidia driver (propietary, installed using the Hardware Drivers app) did not get upgraded. I had to manually

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.32-22-generic

Only after that did dkms install my nividia driver. Looks like a broken dependency somewhere, or perhaps a meta package did not get installed somewhere. I havent removed any packages myself.

The problem is that the package linux-headers-generic wasn't installed. I used the alternate installer for this PC, whereas on PCs where I've used the graphical installer this problem does not occur. So I think it's an installer bug.

in my case linux-headers-2.6.32-21-generic was installed.
I expected this package to be updated at the same time the new kernel 2.6.32-22 was installed.

However, it did not. When I recognized that the nvidia module failed to build, I saw that "linux-headers-generic" was not installed. Installing this package also installed the update to inux-headers-2.6.32-22-generic.

I installed the nvidia-driver with the program "Hardware Drivers" from the KDE-Menu.
Ths installed "nvidia-current" which depends either on "linux-headers-generic" or "linux-headers".

The dependency "linux-headers" is fullfilled by "linux-headers-2.6.32.21-generic".

I also installed in text-mode with the alternate kubuntu-cd for amd64.
