Bug Description

Thanks a lot for adding e1000e-next driver in jaunty-update kernel but on my computer this driver is 10Mbit only even if connected directly to an other gigabit card !

jaunty 2.6.28-18 include e1000e driver revision 1.0.2.5 from sourceforge.

So could you please include new e1000e driver from http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/ in next kernel upgrade ?

Hi Eric,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 575912

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Eric,
Have you checked this in the latest release of Lucid? I highly doubt this will get included in Jaunty as it is only updated for issues of a security nature.

Thanks!

i've just rebuild a new kernel with driver version 1.0.15 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/files/e1000e%20stable/1.0.15/e1000e-1.0.15.tar.gz/download and everything works fine !

Jeremy,
this problem is only present on jaunty kernel, with lucid everything works up to 1000Mbit. But i have a lot of computers running jaunty here and i can't make a migration to lucid now.

So i'm going to use my custom-kernel but i don't like this idea due to security updates.

Here is a patch (from e1000 version 1.0.15 sources) you can apply to last jaunty security kernel source.

Had the same issue on Jaunty x64 running on Latitude E6510. Will see if upgrading helps.

Just upgraded to Karmic. The e1000e still broken. Speed at 10mbps. It's mentioned here that the driver is fixed in Lucid.

I too am experiencing this issue with Karmic on a Dell Optiplex 980.

Receive this message in dmesg regardless of what I plug the machine into:

Same issue here in 9.10. Running "sudo rmmod e1000e; sudo modprobe e1000e" gets me to a gigabit but it isn't perfect. This adapter gives me issues with serving VNC. It takes around 10 connection attempts to get in on the client.
