Bug Description

Please sync bpython 0.9.6.2-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The Ubuntu delta (build with Python 2.6) got merged into the Debian package.

Changelog entries since current maverick version 0.9.5.2-2ubuntu1:

bpython (0.9.6.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Reduce delta with Ubuntu, and prepare for near-future Debian:
    support Python >= 2.5:
    - debian/control: bump XS-Python-Version
    - debian/postinst, debian/postrm: remove python*/*-packages/bpython,
      to catch both python2.5/site-packages and python2.6/dist-packages.

bpython (0.9.6.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upstream broke things with 0.9.6, new release

 -- David Paleino <email address hidden> Thu, 31 Dec 2009 11:21:13 +0100

bpython (0.9.6-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
  * debian/patches/:
    - 01-fix_logo_path.patch added, make bpython-gtk look for the
      icon in the right place
    - 02-fix_entrypoints_imports.patch added, make sure everything is
      in place to move gtk_.py out of PYTHONPATH
    - 01-add_write_to_FakeStdin.patch, 02-add_flush_to_FakeStdin.patch
      removed, merged upstream
  * debian/control:
    - package split in "bpython" and "bpython-gtk"
    - build-dependency on debhelper bumped
  * debian/rules:
    - rewritten with implicit dh7 targets
  * debian/scripts/bpython-gtk added, wrapper around bpython-gtk.py

 -- David Paleino <email address hidden> Wed, 30 Dec 2009 16:14:21 +0100

bpython (0.9.5.2-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/postinst: only do something if an "old-version" is
    passed to the script (Closes: #560229)

so are you going to do anything about this? 0.9.5.2 is really buggy! talked about it with one of the devs yesterday and he was kinda shocked when I told him that the ubuntu maintainers haven't managed to update to 0.9.6.2, which was released back in 2009 (well, december 31st, but still^^). that's some seven months by now!

btw, 0.9.6.2 is a great improvement over 0.9.5.2, which has an awful lot of bugs that were fixed with 0.9.6.2, so please also add it to stable (i.e. lucid), not only to maverick which is only in alpha and thus not even usable!

Speaking for the developers: we are on track to release 0.9.7 next week.

This bug report seems to have been randomly marked as being incomplete. The sync is done so setting back to fix released.

If you want a backport to lucid see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports and file another bug under launchpad.net/lucid-backports

Just why then isn't there a package bpython in maverick? The Ubuntu package search doesn't show one... And if you look here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/bpython - there's just karmic and lucid, no link to maverick. So what the hell am I doing wrong? And why don't you sync it in lucid? It's not a big major release or anything like that, so I don't see the point in the whole thing. And just btw, the devs released 0.9.7 today.

It's a known problem that http://packages.ubuntu.com/ doesn't work for maverick yet.
Ubuntu maverick contains currently bpython 0.9.6.2-2 (see https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/bpython).
