Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic

There is a problem in the Realtek codec included in the linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic package for ALC259. After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04, sound was not working on my machine. I was able to diagnose the problem and fix it by compiling the linux-backports-modules-alsa package with the following fix:

http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/git-commits-head/2010/1/26/22623

If you need any more information, I'll be happy to provide it.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately.]

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it back to linux-meta and tag it kj-linux-meta, or contact us on the #ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. Thanks.

tweaking 0x21 (as suggested in the patch linked by the original reporter) with HDAAnalyzer does indeed allow sound to be heard.

Note: alsamixer reports the affected channel as line out.
Note2: sound will work if line out is MUTED. state is inverted.
