Bug Description

I tried the Kubuntu 6.06 LiveCD/installer on a Dell Inspiron 640m. When using the default graphic boot, the boot sequence kind of hangs after it says 'Starting KDE...'. The system daemon messages disappears and the display stay stuck on the Kubuntu boot progress bar. Trying to switch display manually doesn't work. I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot and this works.

If I use the 'Safe graphic mode', everything works fine and the boot completes to the KDE login.

I managed to successfully install Kubuntu 6.06 after that. The default X driver configured was vesa and I changed it to the i810 driver after that (in order to have DRI and correct resolution). Everything worked fine from there.

The display adapter in the Dell Inspiron 640m is an Intel 945GM. I have a 14" XGA+ display with 1440x900 resolution.

Sounds like an X bug, if using vesa (safe mode) works ...
