Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. amd64 desktop installation. Clean install not an upgrade.

Any time when firefox is running and screen saver kicks in, after unlocking, the address bar history does not work. Typing anything in the bar does not show matching entries in the pull down menu.

Restarting firefox fixes the problem.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you look at bug 438868 and let us know if that describes what you are experiencing?

Yes, 438868 describes this bug. But none of the workarounds tossed around in that bug work for me and it is 100% reproducible after screen saver lock.

This never happened to me in Karmic, only started in Lucid.

Also this may not be a firefox only bug. When I asked this question in ubuntu forums, one user reported having this problem in Chrome also.

Yes, it seems it has emerged again in Lucid and is worse for some users than it was before. There does seem to be some speculation as to the exact cause, but it has been reported to Mozilla and several teams are looking at the report. Since bug 438868 describes the bug you are experiencing, I am marking this report as a duplicate of that report. Please see that report for any workarounds that emerge and to see if you can add any information that is not already provided in the comments. Thanks again for reporting this to Ubuntu!

Minimizing firefox's window fixes the issue, no need to restart. I now this bug is a duplicate but if it can help anybody coming here...
