Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

I ssh'ed to the users computer and ran the "sudo do-release-upgrade" command to update it from Karmic to Lucid.
Once the upgrade was compleat the users cursor was a big fat X and there was no border on the windows.
Loogin out of the user account and in to the admin accound showed that the admin had a fully working window manager.
Logged back in to the user accound and still no window manager.
Went to System->Preferences->Appearance -> Desktop Effects revealed that the Desktop Effects had been changed to 'None' by the upgrade process.
Switched it back to normal and now every thing was working.

The video card is a Geforce 2 MX using the Nvidia-96 driver.

After rebooting the Desktop Effects is again set to None and all windows are again missing there boarder and button. Switching Desktop Effects to Normal still fixes it but it's not viable to have to do this every day.

1: Switching Desktop Effects to Normal.
2: Go to System -> Preferences -> Sessions -> Options and press "Remember Currently Running Applications"

Chauncellor, with bugs like this one you should probably just edit the project; change "compiz" to "compiz-core".
