Bug Description

After installing the restricted Nvidia driver computer freezes at a black screen during the boot stage. There are two graphic cards inside: an integrated one and Nvidia G210M.
Maybe installing a newer driver downloaded directly from Nvidia could help but when I try to kill X
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
computer just freezes with some mismatched colours.
Windows can switch between those two cards. Maybe there could be a problem with Ubuntu?

Thank you in advance
Michal

Yes, I am still affected. The black screen appears in the recovery mode as well.
Sorry for confirming the bug by myself.

Ok, I installed the 2.6.36-999 kernel. However, I was not able to install the current nvidia driver then. See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/624473
Should I download the current driver from Nvidia website and try to install it manually?

I can confirm this bug on my Lenovo y550 Ideapad laptop which has Nvidia Geforce GT130M graphics card. After installing Nvidia restricted drivers my system freezes during bootup with a blank screen (actually its purple screen!) . I am trying the latest Ubuntu 10.10 RC build. Just 3 days are left for final release and I fear that I won't be able to use the latest edition this time.

Got maverick up and running on my system with Nvidia restricted driver enabled. Had to downgrade Xorg and Nvidia-current to lucid and lock their versions using synaptic. Don't know if its reliable but the system is pretty stable without any visible performance hit. I hope the issue is resolved soon.
