Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop machine. The first reboots were fine, but after installing fglrx drivers GDM freezes as it starts up. With autologin enabled, I get to see my mouse, the background and hear part of the start melody before everything freezes - I can't move the mouse or switch to a terminal.

With GDM autologin disabled, I just get to see the login background before it freezes. The problem also remains after removing the fglrx drivers.

I can start X without problems using startx. XDM as a login manager also works.

Thank you for the reply.

As the computer completely hangs (I can't switch to the console, Ctrl+C or reboot, just turn power off) I wasn't able to do a backtrace with gdb. However I got a log with Valgrind by ssh-ing from a remote machine up to the point of the freeze.

Also note the backtrace from the segmentation fault in the Xorg.1.log file above.

Error comes apparently from the Neo2 keyboard layout, which causes gdm to crash.

Bug is discussed on http://wiki.neo-layout.org/ticket/213 and http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/neo-layout-in-lucid-10-4/, as well as the Neo mailing list.
