Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-wacom

I have a Wacom USB PenPartner tablet model CT-0405-U. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, 64-bit, with xserver-xorg-input-wacom version 0.10.5-0ubuntu4. I'm running inside of a VMware Player virtual machine.

In Ubuntu 10.04, only the eraser works. As soon as I plug it in, I can move the cursor by using the eraser and I can click by pushing on the eraser. Drawing using the pen does nothing -- the cursor doesn't move or click or respond to anything.

In GIMP's Extended Input Devices configuration window, it only shows "Wacom Penpartner" as the single tablet device available. Enabling it causes the eraser's pressure sensitivity to work correctly.

Here is my output from xsetwacom:

$ xsetwacom --list --verbose
... Display is '(null)'.
... 'list' requested.
... Found device 'Virtual core XTEST pointer' (4).
... Found device 'Virtual core XTEST keyboard' (5).
... Found device 'Power Button' (6).
... Found device 'AT Translated Set 2 keyboard' (7).
... Found device 'ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse' (8).
... Found device 'Macintosh mouse button emulation' (9).
... Found device 'Wacom Penpartner' (10).
Wacom Penpartner ERASER

(It only shows an eraser device)

This tablet does work on Ubuntu 9.10 (also under VMware). The eraser and pen can both move the cursor and they are both pressure sensitive when enabled in GIMP. In 9.10, GIMP shows these devices. (Can't seem to get xsetwacom to list anything in 9.10, so I'm going with the GIMP device list):
Wacom Penpartner eraser
Wacom Penpartner cursor
Wacom Penpartner pad
Wacom Penpartner

This is the device info from lsusb:

ID 056a:0000 Wacom Co., Ltd PenPartner

If you need any more info from me I would be happy to provide it. I believe this bug is a dupe of #539048 which was closed with not enough information. I can't figure out how to attach all my bug info to it from the ubuntu-bug command, so I'm going ahead and creating a new one.

I also have this issue. It's a bit annoying, as my pen worked on 9.10, and suddenly, it's stopped. Unfortunately, my eraser doesn't work any more, so I can't test if it's exactly the same issue as above; but it seems to me that it probably is. Only sees eraser. Running up Gimp recognises the pen partner as a device, but I don't get any joy in terms of controlling the cursor.

Any fix would be greatly appreciated!

Incidentally: I did have it 'working' once since being on 10.04. It didn't work properly - the pen would only register location when pressing down. Anyway, next time I booted (after some messing about to try and make it work properly) and it didn't work again.

As a matter of facts, I have got the same problem.

I tried some tricks found here and there to configure properly my device but I only got the eraser to work properly.
I bought this PenPartner years ago fot my old iMac, and I found it last Weekend under a pile of olds CDs ...

So I can't say it ever worked under Ubuntu but On my old iMac under mac OS 9 it works fine. (But My iMac is not very up to date ...)

For anybody who's interested, I'm no longer seeing this bug in 12.04. (I still was in 11.10, though). So it looks like something in 12.04 fixed it...
