same issue here, Kubuntu Lucid, KDE and Compiz installed.
Window decorator Compiz plugin set to kde4-window-decorator make it crashe and it ends up having no window borders.

I hope changes will be integrated in Ubuntu soon.

it affects me too, crash when I try to set Compiz instead of kwin.
As for that "soon", I'm a bit skeptical about it... anyway we'll see.

FYI:
You can use the Plastik window them with Compiz & KDE Window Decorator, until the fix is released...

Select K | System Settings | Appearance | Windows | Window Decoration (tab)
Select "Plastik" from the drop down.
Click Apply button.

Hi, I've just created an account to say this bug affects me too. Under the same conditions kde4 window decorator crashes and window borders disappear.
Plastik trick doesn't seem to solve for me.
When can we expect a bugfix release?

I've recently upgraded my compiz version with ppa:compiz one, that contains v0.8.6 but the bug is still here. Then I upgraded KDE too with its own ppa to version 4.4.4 but, again, the bug is still there.

I was almost sure it could have solved, reading your comment, but it is not the case.
I wonder if it is a compiz bug after all...

Since this only affects the KDE part of compiz, which currently seems to be rather broken anyway in lucid, this seems fine. SRU approval given, please upload. But please get it fixed in maverick first/along with it.

FAILED: compiz (The source compiz - 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15.1 is already accepted in ubuntu/lucid and you cannot upload the same version within the same distribution. You have to modify the source version and re-upload.)

I need to run emerald but some times the windows borders turns blank.

After restart today i continue experimenting with this bug, and see that only with Oxygen window decoration the kde4-window-decorator segfault with the others it works ok but a bug in compiz sometimes turn the borders in blank lines.

Yes, it happens only with oxygen kwin theme.
As a workaround I use skulpture theme.

Running Maverick here.

Getting the crash when trying to run kde4-window-decorator:

Oxygen being the theme I am actually wanting this for (all others, well there are better ones on emerald) because it looks best with the rest of kde4.

going to look for the patched version, and see if that works, now.
