Bug Description

Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS through SD duo stick with 4.1 Gigs. Its not installing proprietary graphics. Tried twice. wanted to see how it performed. Installed other apps perfectly.
VGA settings are having a hard time manually centering desktop on 37 inch LCD monitor. Desktop will center and ten minutes later it becomes uncentered. I thought the graphics driver would fix this issue. But can't install it.
NO manual adjustments through the monitor will help. It is not a clocking or phase issue.

How did you try to install the driver? What tool did you use?

I can confirm this.
I just tried to enable the nvidia driver via the hardware driver tool and got the same error.

nvidia-96.postinst fails at
        current_glconf="$(readlink -e /etc/ld.so.conf.d/GL.conf)"
because the symlink doesn't exist.
I removed this line and it installs.

If you don't have that link then maybe you're not using the standard mesa or something else went wrong.

What's the output of the following command?
apt-cache policy libgl1-mesa-glx

You're right, still had libgl1-mesa-glx 7.8.0~git20100304.4c0c728b-0ubuntu0sarvatt~karmic installed.
