Bug Description

Hi,

I'm using dapper and kernel-package in the follwoing version:
ii kernel-package 9.001ubuntu15

For build my custom kernel (2.6.17) packages I used the follwoing syntax:
make-kpkg buildpackage --initrd --rootcmd fakeroot --revision 05 --append-to-version -sun-x4100-x4200

After I installed the kernel-image and kernel-headers I wanted to compile drbd0.7 but the follwoing file is missing:

/lib/modules/2.6.17.6-ubuntu1-sun-x4100-x4200/build/arch/i386/Makefile.cpu
aka
/usr/src/kernel-headers-2.6.17.6-ubuntu1-sun-x4100-x4200/build/arch/i386/Makefile.cpu

In the original source-tree located on a different host it's available, so it seems that `make-kpkg kernel_headers` is missing something

Cheers
Bjoern

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,

unfortunately I only have dapper installations which I won't upgrade due to service contracts for LTS
I was able to build binary drbd0.7 modules on the host where I was compiling the original kernel-image and distributed it to my other machines.
So therefor for me it's no longer an issue =)

This is a bit too technical for me to evaluate.
In the changelog I see:
kernel-package (10.049ubuntu5) edgy; urgency=low
  * Detect UTS_RELEASE_HEADER for 2.6.18 allows users to compile
    the 2.6.18 kernel.
kernel-package (11.001) unstable; urgency=low
  * Bug fix: "kernel-package: make-kpkg debian fails if .config not
present", thanks to Sami Liedes. (Closes: #416090).
Not sure at all these are related.
So I am confirming, letting package maintainer look at it.

Unfortunatelly both changelog entries do not point to this bug
Otherwise there would have been a (Closes: #57213) as well

technically, a Makefile is not a header, and also it it not exported into the includes/ directory, which is what is packjaedf up as a headers package. What was the underlying problem you were trying to solve?
