Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdeplasma-addons

This sounds pretty bizarre, but when my laptop wakes up from sleep, I can't use the keyboard buttons to adjust the screen brightness until I get connected to a wireless network. The slider in the battery monitor works fine, though. Once I'm connected to wireless, suddenly the screen brightness changes according to the keys I pressed earlier, and also, I get notifications about the power adapter being plugged in or unplugged.
It seems like the battery monitor does not process any dbus events while I'm connecting to a wireless network.

Sorry, looks like the wireless getting connected is just a coincidence - sometimes, it happens at a slightly different time.

Two other things I noticed when the brightness events finally get processed:
1) Mouse pointer moves to the top left corner of the screen. (It always ends up there when the laptop wakes up, then moves there again.)
2) /var/log/syslog gets these messages:
May 2 13:28:48 dima-macbook acpid: client connected from 1009[0:0]
May 2 13:28:48 dima-macbook acpid: 1 client rule loaded
May 2 13:28:48 dima-macbook acpid: client connected from 1009[0:0]

Apparently, if I suspend the laptop using "sudo pm-suspend --quirk-none", all of these problems go away.

How can I disable quirks permanently? I can't find the documentation about this.

Hi Dima,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I just tried 2.6.34-rc5 (built manually, not from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds). I could not test the screen brightness because the nvidia_bl would not build. However, the other symptoms still occur: the power adapter message appears after a long delay, and the mouse pointer jumps to the top left corner.
