Bug Description

Binary package hint: kpackagekit

When I run kpackagekit, go to "Software Updates" and click "refresh", I get the error "There is no network connection please check your connection s" (sic).

I have a network connection. My network is configured to a static IP using /etc/network/interfaces. I am not running knetworkmanager.

I tried configuring /etc/PackageKit/PackageKit.conf with "UseNetworkManager = false" but this made no difference.

This bug makes KPackageKit unusable.

Does running "pkcon refresh" work? (Trying to determine whether this is a KPackageKit bug, or a bug with PackageKit itself)

This bug is also present in Fedora 13 KDE and makes kpackagekit unusable:

$sudo pkcon refresh

Refreshing cache [=========================]
Waiting for authentication [=========================]
The transaction failed: no-network, Cannot refresh cache whilst offline

I have set static IP.

I've found a solution to my problem. I changed the config file /etc/PackageKit/PackageKit.conf and set the parameter UseNetworkManager=true to UseNetworkManager=false

PackageKit is configured to check network-manager for working connections. If someone uses another configuration, modifying the PK config file is necessary. Maybe we should add an easier solution for this, but at time a fix won't happen. (People who set special network configurations are usually able to set different configurations too :P)
