this is an amd64 system, fresh install of lucid. I have just updated my sources.list to lucid, and imported my trusted.gpg file

when running synaptic, got the error message:

E: Error occurred while processing openoffice.org-l10n-he (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/mirror.anl.gov_pub_ubuntu_dists_lucid_main_binary-amd64_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

W: Unable to munmap

I don't know enought to edit APT::Cache-limit
Will try a reboot.

Reboot did not change problem. Same error messages with Update-manager and Synaptic.

I edited it out of existence...sorry. And the backups are gone, too.

HOWEVER....the biggest problem I noted was that after doing a
search-and-replace with gedit, there were a couple of instances where I
was left with "lucid koala", having done a replace "karmic with lucid"
substitution.

Also, I had tried to merge rather than replace sources.list .

Unless you get a spate of these errors, chalk my experience up to
over-enthusiastic tweaking.

It hasn't reappeared, and forgive me for not having marked it as solved, or at least closed. If you're running into the same problem, I'd recommend generating a new sources.list. If you're looking for good PPA's to add in, I'd recommend starting with the lists in either (or both) Ubuntu-Tweak or Ailurus.

And now I find there is no way to mark it solved. Seriously, the problem was me, not apt.

 It was solved when I re-edited my source.list. Unfortunately, the
launchpad page doesn't give me an option to marked it as "resolved" or
"fixed".
