traceroute6 installed by default but not traceroute

Fresh install of dapper 6.06.
traceroute6 is installed by default.
traceroute is not installed.

Not sure which packages this applies to (iputils? installer?).

'traceroute' is not installed, however tracepath is, in the package iputils-tracepath.

What is the difference between these, and the reason of the change? (Most people are used to traceroute, not tracepath)

Tracepath is a very nice tool, but appears to have difficulty in tracing some paths that traceroute will report correctly.

Regardless of that, since something non-standard is to be used for providing this functionality, would it be too much to ask if it were symlinked to the command traceroute for us old fogies, so at least it *works* in some respect instead of requiring a few minutes searching the system and finally googling the answer?

Who is the one who actually decides about inclusion of traceroute for ipv4 ?

This little nuissance of lacking traceroute in the live system is still in 14.04 :-(

Has this report just not yet reached its recipient, or are there actually different
opinions about the matter?
