did you select to not have swap during partitioning ? this is the only thing i can think of that could trigger

This bug happened to me, but the CD image that was used did not have a valid checksum. These issues are not necessarily related, but it might be a good idea to check the validity of the installation media.

Since this image is now out of support (18 months for arm prior to 12.04), can this just be closed? It was on a tech preview image for a beagle platform. This hasn't been seen in quite some time.
