Bug Description
Binary package hint: network-manager
After upgrade to Lucid-RC, the Network Manager applet no longer shows available networks.
However, if I disable management of wireless networks in NM, it is possible to connect with
sudo iwconfig eth1 essid mynetwork key s:asciikey
sudo dhclient eth1
The SSID for the interface shows
eth1 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"linford"
Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Sensitivity:1/0
Retry short limit:8 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality=84/70 Signal level=-23 dBm Noise level=-149 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:202 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
with Network Manager, but
eth1 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"
Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Sensitivity:1/0
Retry short limit:8 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality=84/70 Signal level=-23 dBm Noise level=-149 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:203 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
with NM
Network card is Prism 2.5 using orinoco_pci
lsmod|grep orin
orinoco_pci 2655 0
orinoco 62841 1 orinoco_pci
cfg80211 126485 1 orinoco
Unfortunately, hostap has been broken since Karmic 2.6.31.10

WpaSupplicantLog:
I had the same issue with a live CD boot of Lucid-RC (kubuntu/x86) on a ThinkPad T30 (type 2366-JBU). With network-manager running, the ESSID is garbled. When I use "service stop network-manager" and then manually configure the ESSID, it shows up properly.
The card is an IBM branded Prism 2.5 MiniPCI (OE with this model) and the firmware revs are 1.1.0 for the primary and 1.8.2 for the secondary.
I'm going to download the released version and retry.
