Storage device name with non-english character is cut off

Bug Description

I named my USB flash drive with non-english characters: "CLÉ USB". When I plug it in, it is mounted as expected, but the name on my Gnome desktop is cut off: "CL". If you want to reproduce the bug, you can grab a USB flash drive, rename it to "CLÉ USB", unmount it and plug it back in. Please note: This USB flash drive was formated and names in Windows Vista. Maybe it's a character set issue? Maybe some piece of software isn't compiled using UTF-8, or some of its source code was saved using a different character set...
Thanks,

Hello
Is this problem present with the latest updated Lucid's or Maverick's packages?
Thanks in advance
Fabio

Hello,

Yes, I'm using Maverick but the problem is still here. If I format a USB flash drive with the name "CLÉ USB" in Windows 7, when I connect it to my Ubuntu computer, the name is cut off at the character "É" (see attachment).
Thank you,

Charles.

Hello Charles
looks like another case of the assumption of CP437 encoding causing issues, which is related to an unfixable underlying design issue in FAT.
Thanks

Thanks. Is there a way to use latin characters in device names somehow, then?
