Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

The newly released e6410 boots to a blank screen when using the live CD. The desktop appears to load in the background because I can hear the startup sound play, but I can't see anything on the display.

I'm also not able to access any of the virtual consoles to troubleshoot the problem.

@Bryce

Unable to do so since the virtual consoles will not display either.

You could probably type blindly into the virtual terminals to collect the information, but this is a bit difficult!

You can also probably boot the LiveCD by selecting the “Safe graphics mode” or “nomodeset”. Sadly the logs from when you're booting with nomodeset aren't useful, but once you've got some persistent storage we can grab useful logs from previous boots.

I get the same behavior trying to boot to Lucid 64-bit live CD on my HP EliteBook 8440p with nvidia NVS 3100M graphics. I was able to use the "nomodeset" to install and on first boot until I installed the proprietary nvidia drivers. The other problems I run into are:

-I cannot adjust the brightness - it is all or nothing. (Bug #562005)
-Whenever I close my screen without suspending (just turns the screen off), I have to switch to a VT and back to turn my screen back on. (probably related to the previous problem)

I suspect my remaining problems can be attributed to problems with the proprietary drivers.
