error in cx23885 firmware

Binary package hint: linux-firmware

Composite input of my Hauppauge HVR1800 did not function until I replaced these files in /lib/firmware:
     v4l-cx23885-avcore-01.fw
     v4l-cx23885-enc.fw
with the files suggested at linuxtv.org in the HVR1800 section.

Now functioning OK

Please download, install, and test an updated version of the linux-firmware package: http://people.canonical.com/~cndougla/569615/linux-firmware_1.34ubuntu1~lp569615_all.deb. Ensure that the tuner card is functioning correctly with the firmware. Once we are sure things look good, we can move forward to updating the package for Lucid.

The firmware shipped in the current version of the linux-firmware package is incorrect. I have version 1.97 installed on Ubuntu 12.10. The /lib/firmware/v4l-cx23885-enc.fw is identical to /lib/firmware/v4l-cx23885-avcore-01.fw . However, when the cx23885 driver tries to load the firmware, there is a size mismatch error: v4l-cx23885-enc.fw should be 376836 bytes instead of 16382. The correct file can be obtained here: http://steventoth.net/linux/hvr1800/ by extracting them from the windows driver using the provided script.

Fixed upstream by simply removing the bogus file.
