Default text resolution is not readable (150) DPI Ubuntu Lucid

Running on the default setting the text is unreadable when scanning and then reprinting a standard A4 letter . Have to move up to 300 DPI. This seemed to work on XSANE before hand at a lower resolutions.

When i go to print this Job at 300DPI is takes a long time also. A copy text function would be great ;)

Hi,

Are you printing using Document>Print or saving and then printing with another application? Could you attach an example scan and a scan of the printed document?

Also please attach the output of simple-scan -d when run from a terminal.

Right I have taken an example letter from the Internet printed it out and then rescanned it using first the default photo mode and then the text mode. This has then been saved as a PDF but I can see that the output from the PDF is the same as if I went straigh to file then print when using text mode. I chose text mode from the drop down box on the scan button.

Hmm, it looks like your scanned does really bad "LineArt" scans. Can you check the result using Xsane?

I don't think it's a resolution problem, more of a quality problem. We are considering not using lineart mode and doing the processing in simple-scan instead, see bug 521323.

Now that simple-scan uses a few gray levels in scans it should look better - could you please try with a recent version?
